Why you'd want to live in Redmond

Redmond, Oregon, in Deschutes county, is 16 miles NE of Bend, Oregon and 113 miles SE of Portland, Oregon. Redmond was named after Frank and Josephine Redmond, who settled near the area. The city was platted by a company that was building a major canal project in the area. It was originally incorporated as a town in 1910. The first post office of the area was established in 1915. Redmond was reincorporated as a city in 1916. In the 1940s, it was chosen to be a US Air Force Base. The Petersen Rock Garden & Museum displays mini towers, bridges and buildings made of petrified wood and rock. One can also visit the Redmond Zoo while in Redmond. Hayden City Park, Baker City Park and Ray Johnson Park offer various recreational opportunities. The city also hosts the Deschutes County Fair every year.
